I’m a sucker for good smoothies.  In the summer, my go-to breakfasts are Greek yogurt, fruit, flaxseed and nuts or homemade smoothies.  Emphasis on the homemade.  Lots of smoothies that you pick up in the bottle or go to smoothie places for are unbalanced with lots of carbohydrates and not nearly enough protein.  Here’s one of my favorites that I pull together on a regular basis.   We always have bananas in the freezer.  And, we rarely make it all the way through a bag of grapes, so I freeze them before they go bad.  They are great in smoothies!  We also have a Magic Bullet.  I *love* it.  We use it almost every day.  It is by far one of my favorite appliances in the kitchen.  So much easier to use and clean than the big blender.

1 cup milk of your choice (I usually use almond with 5x the protein and fiber or soy)

1/2 frozen banana

1/2 cup frozen grapes (this is also really good with frozen blueberries if you don’t have grapes)

1 tablespoon of natural peanut butter (also good with almond butter or sun butter)

1 scoop vanilla or plain protein powder (I use Growing Naturals Organic Brown Rice Protein Powder)

ice – depending on how thick/thin you like your smoothie

Add all ingredients to Magic Bullet or blender and turn it on.  Once blended to your liking, enjoy.

Made with the almond milk, peanut butter and grapes, this will give you about 400 calories, 36 grams of protein, 11 grams of fat, 11 grams of fiber and 45 grams carbohydrates.  Not only is it a tasty breakfast, it’s a great balance of protein, fat and fiber.
